My Necky 'Santa Cruz' beached along the Oswegatchie River across from Cooper Falls...long before the thought of fishing from it even entered my mind. I purchased it around ten years ago from T.I. Adventures in Clayton, NY.
Most kayaks rigged for fishing are sit-on tops. I fish from a "sit-in" kayak. That's a little unusual as far as the sport goes. The reasons? Well, first and foremost, I have a wife and I already had three kayaks. The "Santa Cruz", a Mainstream "Jazz" sit-on-top for the kids, and a Necky "Sky2" tandem. When I happened along a picture of a kayak rigged for fishing on the 'net one day, I knew this was for me and I knew it would be the Necky Santa Cruz. Secondly, I like the comfort and shelter of a sit-in kayak. Living in the north country of New York State, the Summers are short and the weather, when it is good doesn't stay that way too long. I'm also fishing in a fresh water environment. No 100 lb. sail fish or 75 lb sea bass where I am. Landing what I catch isn't an issue, and if it ever is...believe me, you'll hear about it! It's a sit-in for me.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark
