CRATE SYSTEM-
The crate system is comprised of two separate crates and like most, it's constructed from milk/file crates. This gives two storage compartments. Small items can even be bungeed between them. A cooler used to be attached to the crates, but I'ved since ditched it so I could move them forward for better access.
STRUCTURE-
Two separate crates are attached together at the bottom only. This lets the crates "hinge" and conform to the curvature of the kayak deck.
HINGE-
Tie wraps loosely attach the bottoms of the crates together, to allow it to hinge.
ROD TUBES-
Tubes are simply attached to the corner of the crates with tie wraps, one around the tube and one through the tube to secure it tightly.
ROD LEASH--
To leash the rods when they're in the stowed in the tubes, I cut the spiraled cords off dollar store cell phone chargers.
LEASH ATTACHMENT--
The leashes are attached to by drilling 2 holes in the tube, threading the leash through and doubling the cord end and tie wrapping it.
LEASHED--
This shows how the rod is leashed in the tube. The leash is stretched over the reel and a hook tied on the loose end is attached to the crate.
