| TACKLE STORAGE DRAWER- When the NEW deck was installed I lost the storage space for the Plano tackle tray I used in the "Double Deck" construction. I knew I'd miss it, so I designed this alternate. |
| DESIGN- - A length of 3/4" slotted PVC pipe accepts the tie wrap pins, mounted to the tackle tray cover, to allow the tray to slide when mounted. |
| RAIL CONSTRUCTION- The slotted PVC 3/4 inch pipe, cut to length (a little longer than the the Plano box. |
| CUTTING THE SLOT- A quick jig setup with a table top Benchmate, clamps and straightedge, made the slot cut a quick job. |
| SLOT CUT DETAIL-- Set the router depth to cut through just one side of the pipe. |
| FRONT NOTCH-- V-Notch the front end of the rail to easily accept the pins on the tray. |
| RAIL MOUNTS-- To avoid yet more holes in the boats top deck I affixed tie wrap mounts to the front and rear of the tube. To act as a stop for the drawer, another tie wrap through the center of the pipes back prevents the tray from being pushed in too far and coming off track.
|
| RAIL MOUNTED-- The rail suspended under the deck. Two more tie wrap mounts are attached to the screw threads protruding trhough the deck from the Deck Rail assembly, and attached mid-rail for additional support.
|
| HINGE PINS-- 2 Tie wrap female ends make each pin, one on top of the cover acts as the pin itself while the one underneath the cover secures it. |
| HINGE PINS-- Align the 3 "pins" straight along the top of the cover. When creating the holes in the cover, drill 2 small holes side by side to create a slot for the tie wrap, as opposed to a single hole. This will prevent the tie wrap pin from swiveling, making it easier to slide the tray into the rail. |
| STOWED AWAY-- The plano tackle tray stowed under the kayak deck! |
